3d House Icon Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how to create a 3d house icon

Step 1.

Create a new document with 60x60 pixel dimensions and then zoom in by 300%. First we're going to create the roof of the little house. Using the Rectangular Marquee Tool create a selection and then a new layer. Fill the selection with a dark grey color.

Step 2.

The rectangle needs to be rotated by 38 degrees. Go to Edit > Transform > Rotate from the top menu. Then along the top, you'll be able to enter 38 as the amount to rotate it, as shown in the image below.

Step 3.

The image will have rotated like so.

Step 4.

Create another rectangle on a new layer, but this time around half the width. Fill it with a lighter grey.

Step 5.

Next you need to distort the dimensions of rectangle to give the roof a sense of perspective. To do this, go to Edit > Transform > Distort. Bring the bottom right corner to the top right corner of the darker part of the roof. It should look something like the image below.

Step 6.

Now drag the top right corner as shown below.

Step 7.

Move the top left corner towards the right and the bottom left so that its over the top left of the darker section.

Step 8.

Next we're going to create the house sides. Make a new layer below the roof layers. and then make another selection. Fill it with a light grey.

Step 9.

Using Edit > Transform > Distort to bring the bottom right corner down like in the image below.

Step 10.

For the other side of the house, make another layer and create a rectangle with an even lighter grey.

Step 11.

You now need use distort again to bring the bottom right corner up.

Step 12.

Now select the Line Tool

Step 13.

Create a line along the bottom of the house.

Step 14.

And then make a line along other side. Now we need to make the door. Create a layer above all the other layers, use the Rectangular Selection Tool to make a selection and then fill it with blue (or what ever color you want the door to be).

Step 15.

Finally, use Distort again to make the rectangle as shown below and then save the image.

Step 16.

So there you go. You've create a 3d house icon!
