This Photoshop tutorial will show you how to create an abstract text effect.
Step 1.
To Start off make new Photoshop document, with a black background and then create some green (527B2F) large (180 pt) thick text. I've used "Faktos" for this tutorial but any thick font, such as Arial Black, will do. Make a selection of the text and expand (select > modify > expand) it by 5 pixels. Create anew layer below the text and then fill it with dark blue (004C60). Select the custom shape tool and choose the shape circled in red.

Step 2.
Expand the selection by a further 5 pixels and fill a new layer (below) with a very dark blue (314A50). Next zoom on to 300% and then create a new layer set. Create a radial gradient on a new layer in the layers set, using white for the foreground color and black for the background. Zoom back out and place more duplicates of the gradient along the edges of the text. Create the shape using grey (9C9C9C) and the change it's blending mode to overlay. Dupplicate the shape several times, overlapping the others.

Step 3.
Make sure to cover the whole of the text with duplicates of the shape. Make a selection using the original text and then fill a new layer with dark green (173E00). Feather (select > feather) and contract (select > modify > contract) it by 7 pixels and then delete the selected area (image c).

Step 4.
And that brings us to the end of this Photoshop tutorial :)
