This Photoshop tutorial will show you how to draw a clapperboard, used when filming movies. |
| To start off, for step 1, create a new Photoshop document and then make a black rectangle with the rounded rectangle tool. On a new layer use the linear gradient tool to create a grey foreground to transparent gradient (b). Next, make a selection using the 1st layer, by holding Ctrl and pressing on the layer in the layers panel. Contract the selection (select > modify > contract) by 4 pixels, make a new layer and then fill it with black. |
Next, use the polygonal lasso tool to make to make the selection seen in image a. Use the selection to create a copy of the 1st black layer, and then bring it above all the other layers. Increase the lightness of the shape (image > adjustments > hue/saturation), changing it from black to grey. Now we're going to create the screws for the hinges of the clapper board. Zoom in by 500 %, create a new layer and then select the radial gradient tool. Set the back ground to dark grey and the foreground to light grey. Create an elliptical marquee tool and the create a radial gradient. Zoom out to 200 % and then duplicate the radial gradient laer. Create a new layer and then use the polygonal lasso tool to create the shape, shown in image c). Leave a pixel wide gap at the top of the shape. |

Next, duplicate the white shape 4 times and then space them out evenly. Merge the 5 layers together and then duplicate the new layer. Flip it vertically (edit > transform > flip vertical) and then move it into place, like in image b). Use the line shape tool to create a black line dividing the white shapes and the hinge. |
Using the line tool again, create some 3 pixel wide dividing lines. |
| Then lastly, create the text, using Arial set to 8pt, bold and sharp. That's the end of the Photoshop tutorial and that's all there is to it! You can see the resulting image below. |
