An easy Photoshop tutorial to create a metal text effect .
 
Chained Text Thumnail
Step 1.
First of create a new photoshop ducment with dimensions of 260x190, and a black background. The grey (D6D6D6) text has been made large and thick so the texture can be seen clearly. I've used the settings below.
Step 2.
Add noise (filter > noise > add noise) to the text, using the settings below. When you choose this filter, Photoshop will alert you that you need to rasterize the layer, so accept this.
Step 3.
Click on the layer in the layers panel and create a selection using the layer (select > load selection).
Step 4.
Expand the selection (select > modify > expand) by 5 pixels, and fill a new layer below with dark grey (454545).
Step 5.
Apply the bevel and emboss layer style (layer > layer style > bevel and emboss), using the settings shown below.
Step 6.
You should now have something like below.
