| First of all make a new photoshop document with dimensions of 160w x 210h. Create a subtle gradient background using the linear gradient tool, and then make some large thick light blue text. For this tutorial i've rounded off the corners, but if you've got an appropriate font, you can use that if you like :). On a new layer, make a selection of the text by rightclicking on the layer, in the layers panel while holding Ctrl. Fill the selection with a dark blue, as shown in image d). |

| Next, feather (selection > modify > contract) and contract (select > feather) the selection by 7 pixels , and then delete the contents of the selection. We want the stars to only be visible inside the text, so we need a layer to hide them. Make a copy of the gradient layer and bring it to the top in the layers panel. Make a selection of the light blue text, as shown in image a), and then delete the copy of teh gradient using it. The gradient should now have a cut out of the text.
