Create a new layer below all the others, and then select the Radial Gradient Tool |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Make an oval with the Elliptical Marquee Tool. |
| |

| |
| |
Use the Radial Gradient Tool in the selection and then delete the bottom half. |

Make a new layer and then create a light grey rectangle.
| |

| |
| |
Go to Edit > Transform > Rotate and rotate it towards the right, as seen in the image below. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Create another rectangle, but with a darker grey, and rotate it also. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Delete the very top of this rectangle so that it is flat topped. Now we need just one more rectangle that we're going to rotate. Use the lighter grey and make it a bit shorter than the other two. Rotate it and delete its top. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Merge the 3 layers that we just rotated and then delete the excess at the bottom, using the Rectangular Marquee Tool. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Duplicate the layer and then flip it using Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal and then move it over to the right so that it mirrors the left one. Create a new layer, above all the rest, and then, using the Pencil Tool, create some single pixel squares in a horizontal line. |

Ok, so that's the spaceship created! Now we need to animate some stars behind it so that it looks like it's moving. Save the image as a PSD and then open it up in Image Ready. You can load the image into Image Ready by clicking on the very bottom button in the Tools.

Create a layer below your Space Ship folder. We'll create the stars in this layer, so use the Pencil Tool to randomly create some white dots.
| |
| |
| |
| |
Make a copy of the stars layer and move it out of the visible area, trying to position it where it says “stars copy”, in the image below. The reason we are making a copy is so that when we move the first copy, in the animation, there is just black space (which wouldn't look right!) |
| |
| |
| |
| |
We now need to link the layers so that they move together. Click on the 1 st stars layer and then click on where the little padlock image is in the image below.

Next, bring up the Animation tab by going to Window > Animation. There should only be one frame right now. Duplicate the first frame, by pressing on the red, circled icon. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Click on the 2 nd frame and make sure you have the stars layer highlighted in the layers tab. Keep the Shift button pressed and then press the left arrow key once. The stars layer should move to the left. Keep duplicating the frames and using Shift + Left to move the stars until just black space starts to appear (as highlighted in red). You should end up with around 8 frames.

So FINALLY you should have created your flying spaceship avatar! Save it by going to File > Save Optimised As and then name it what you want. |
