Next we're going to create a gradient effect on the blue part of the header. Select a dark blue (1E6E97) for you foreground and then choose the Gradient Tool. Select “foreground to transparent” and a linear gradient, as the type. |

Select the blue part of the header, by clicking on it's layer in the layers panel and then by going to Select > Reselect. Drag. While there is a selection, create new layer and then, using the Gradient tool, drag from the right hand edge of the selection to just under half way. |

The blue part of the header should now have a fade like in the image below.

Next we're going to create some shapes, to make the header look a bit more interesting. Make a round circle using the Ellipse Tool using a light blue and then another one with a slightly darker blue, which is approximately 1 pixel in diameter smaller. You can do this by making a selection, using the 1 st ellipse, and by going Select > Modify > Contract. Enter 1 as the value, create a new layer and then fill the selection with a darker blue |

Choose the Gradient tool again, but this time make the foreground white and select the Radial Gradient.

Create a new layer and then drag from the centre of the circle to create a gradient like in the image below.

This next shape is quite easy to make. Choose a purple color and then create a small square on a new layer. I've zoomed in at 300% to create this, since it's made of 1-pixel thin lines. Create another layer and then create the 1 st line. Duplicate the line layer and the rotate it by 90 degrees. Create 2 more duplicates and then rotate 1 of them by 45 degrees and the other by –45. You should end up with something like in image b) |

Zoom out and hopefully you will have 2 shapes looking like the ones in the image below.

You can create more shapes by making variations of the 1 st 2 shapes, and perhaps adding small additions. Like for the shape below, I've duplicated the 1 st shape, added a darker circle and then added some petal like shapes, with a gradient. Now it's your turn to experiment. Don't be afraid to make a completely different header, with other colors! :) |
