This is part 2 of the Signpost Photoshop tutorial. Next, we're going to created 1 of the signs. Select the rounded rectangle tool, and then create a rectangle like in image a). Use the Transform tool (edit > transform > distort) to distort the rectangle like in image b). |
| |
| |
| |
| Duplicate the distorted rectangle and then flip it vertically (edit > transform > flip vertical). Line it up with the original and then create another rounded rectangle on top of it, like in image b). |

| Merge all 3 of the grey shapes together and then make a selection of them. To do this, hold the Ctrl key and then click on its layer in the layers panel. Contract the selection by 2 pixels and then fill it will black, like in image a). Next, use the polygonal lasso tool to create the grey shape shown in image b).
| Merge the new grey shape with the other layer and then create some text, like in image a). I used Arial black font for this tutorial example. Next, duplicate the sign layer and then make it a black color, by going to image > adjustment > hue/saturation and then entering –100 for lightness. Put the darkened layer below the sign layer, in the layers panel. Use gassian blur (filter > blue > gaussian blur) on the black shape, setting the radius to 4.4 pixels. |
| Next, set the opacity of the blurred, black layer to 50%, from the layers panel. Your sign should have a nice shadow now, like in image a). Next go to edit > transform > rotate, to rotate it slight down and left. |
| next, Merge the shadow with the sign layer and then duplicate it. Flip it horizontally, move it above the original and create some new text for. Last of all we need to create a shadow for the post. Just as we did with the sign, duplicate the post layer and then change the lightness to –100. Place the layer below the actual post layer and then move it slightly to the left. Apply gaussian blur to it and then reduce its opacity to about 70%. |
