| This Photoshop tutorial will show you how to create a smiley style button. |
| |
| First of all create a new Photoshop file with dimensions of 180x180, and a black background. For this tutorial we're going to be creating the green one, which can be adjusted quite easily to create the blue one also. So, create new layer and then a selection using the elliptical marquee tool. Select white for the foreground and dark green (2B5D26) for the background. Next, zoom in to 200%, duplicate the gradient circle and scale it down to 40% (image b), using the transform tool (edit > transform). Then use a elliptical selection to delete part of it, like in image c). |
| Next circular selection (image a) on a new layer and fill it with white. Contract (selection > modfiy > contract) the selection by 7, fill it with green (61BC5D), contract it by a further 4 pixel and then fill it with black. |

| Make a selection of the gradient layer (image a) and if the selection doesnt overlap the black part of the eye, use the transform tool to scale to 90% (image b). Then use the selection of the gradient layer to cut (layer via cut) the other layer into 2. Delete the excess, leaving you with image d). Merge the gradient layer with the white layer and then duplicate it (image e). |
| Move the duplicate over to the left, for the left eye, and then flip it horizontally (edit > transform > flip horizontal). Zooming out to 100%, you should now have a head with to eyes. Next go to [Part 2] of this Photoshop tutorial. |
