| Start off by creating a new Photoshop document with dimensions of 260 width x 380 height, and then zoom in to 800% magnication. On a new layer, use the rectangular marquee tool to create a selection, and then choose the reflected gradient tool. Drag from the center to the far right of the selection, creating a gradient (a). Nextm make another selection covering the bottom part, and then decrease the brightness of it. Do this by going to image > adjustments > hue/saturation and then setting the lightness to -25. Once you've done this, make another selelction covering to the top part and then cut it using layer via cut, by right clicking on the layer in the layers panel. |

| Move the cut out layer to the bottom and then delete a pixel of it. Create a pixel wide rectangle along the left hand side and then, upon zooming out, you should created the 1st section of the sword's handle. |
| Zoom in to 400%. Merge all the layers of the handle section together and then duplicate it several times, placing them like in image b). Use the transform tool to scale the bottom section down to 70%. Zoom to 300% and use the reflected gradient to create a thin rectangle on the top of the handle. |
